WIS 40 (1 mile south of Elm Creek Road to 0.08 mile south of Elm Creek Road), town of Radisson - Sawyer County


Location

The proposed 0.92-mile project is on WIS 40 from one mile south of Elm Creek Road to 0.08 mile south of Elm Creek Road southwest of the village of Radisson.​

Overview

This section of WIS 40 has a high crash rate. To address this and other needs, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing to:

  • Realign WIS 40 from 0.3 mile south of Elm Creek Road to 0.9 mile south of Elm Creek Road.
  • Excavate and grade the site.
  • Install culverts.
  • Clear trees and shrubs.
  • Remove a portion of the existing pavement, repave and place a high-friction surface treatment on the roadway from 0.3 mile south of Elm Creek Road to 0.08 mile south of Elm Creek Road.
  • Install centerline and shoulder rumble strips.

  • Place new pavement markings.

Schedule

Construction is currently scheduled for 2027.

Traffic Impacts

During construction, WIS 40 will:

  • Remain open to a single lane of traffic controlled by daytime flagging during some of the work.
  • Likely be detoured during the realignment of the highway.

Access for local residents will be maintained during construction.

Public Involvement

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is holding a public involvement meeting to discuss the proposed improvement project from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1 at the Radisson Town Hall, 3751 N. Clark St., answer questions and gather public input. The meeting will be open-house style.
