Location
The proposed 0.92-mile project is on WIS 40 from one mile south of Elm Creek Road to 0.08 mile south of Elm Creek Road southwest of the village of Radisson.
Overview
This section of WIS 40 has a high crash rate. To address this and other needs, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing to:
- Realign WIS 40 from 0.3 mile south of Elm Creek Road to 0.9 mile south of Elm Creek Road.
- Excavate and grade the site.
- Install culverts.
- Clear trees and shrubs.
- Remove a portion of the existing pavement, repave and place a high-friction surface treatment on the roadway from 0.3 mile south of Elm Creek Road to 0.08 mile south of Elm Creek Road.
- Install centerline and shoulder rumble strips.
- Place new pavement markings.
Schedule
Construction is currently scheduled for 2027.
Traffic Impacts
During construction, WIS 40 will:
- Remain open to a single lane of traffic controlled by daytime flagging during some of the work.
- Likely be detoured during the realignment of the highway.
Access for local residents will be maintained during construction.
