Location
The 14.28-mile project on WIS 64 begins at WIS 13 in the city of Medford and continues east through the towns of Medford, Browning and Goodrich, ending at the Lincoln County line, all in Taylor County.
Overview
The pavement in this segment of WIS 64 and several structures are showing signs of deterioration. To address these issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing:
- Removing 4.5 inches of the existing pavement and placing 4.5 inches of new asphalt pavement for the full travel lanes and paved shoulders
- Installing centerline rumble strips
- Completing girder and abutment repairs on the bridge over the west branch of the Little Black River, 0.75 mile east of Oriole Drive
- Replacing the wing wall on the culvert carrying Correction Creek under WIS 64 near Evergreen Cemetery
- Making concrete surface repairs on the culvert carrying Mink Creek under WIS 64 west of County C North
- Extending the ends on the culvert carrying a drainageway under WIS 64 0.3 mile east of Mink Drive
- Completing work on additional culverts, including cleaning, regrading ditches to improve drainage and replacing structures
- Completing roadside clearing
- Replacing guardrail
- Upgrading sidewalk curb ramps between South 9th Street and One Weather Shield Plaza
- Replacing pavement markings
Schedule
Construction currently is scheduled for 2028.
Traffic Impacts
During construction:
- WIS 64 will be closed to through traffic:
- For about a week for culvert pipe replacement 0.33 mile east of Lemke Drive
- Through traffic will be detoured via IW 97, WIS 29 and WIS 107.
- Access will be maintained to properties on both sides of the culvert.
- For about a month for work on the bridge over the west branch of the Little Black River
- Through traffic will be detoured via WIS 13, WIS 29 and WIS 97.
- Access will be maintained to properties on both sides of the bridge.
- Motorists will encounter:
- Shoulder closures at guardrail replacement locations during non-working hours
- Single-lane closures controlled by temporary traffic signals at during work at the Mink Creek culvert and the drainageway 0.3 mile east of Mink Drive
- Single-lane closures controlled by flagging operations during work hours for the remaining work on the project
- During curb ramp work, temporary accommodations will be made for pedestrians.
