WIS 167 (Mequon Road) Pavement Replacement at WIS 181 (Wauwatosa Road) Intersection

Project Overview

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is designing a pavement replacement project at the intersection of WIS 167 (Mequon Road) and WIS 181 (Wauwatosa Road) in the City of Mequon, Ozaukee County.

The intersection, in its current configuration, was initially built in 1987. It was later part of a pavement maintenance project in 2008.

The proposed improvements include:

  • The existing pavement, base, and curb and gutter will be removed.
  • New pavement, base, curb and gutter, and subgrade improvements will be constructed through the intersection.
  • The median opening west of the intersection will be closed, and a westbound left turn lane will be added at Solar Ave to accommodate U-turns.
  • All curb ramps will be upgraded to meet current ADA standards.
  • The existing pork chop islands will be removed and reconstructed.
  • The existing traffic signals will be upgraded.
  • Storm sewer will be evaluated to determine repair or replacement needs.
  • Pavement marking and signing will be updated.
  • All existing pavement marking will be replaced.

A small amount of right-of-way may be acquired for this project. WisDOT will evaluate right-of-way needs during the design process.

Schedule

Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2027.
