US 51 (Centerway Street to Black Bridge Road), Janesville - Rock County
Project overview
The purpose of the project is to address the following needs for this section of US 51:
- The deteriorated pavement has reached the end of its service life
- Curb ramps are out of ADA compliance
- Cable guard on the project is of sub standard design
- Underground utilities have reached the end of their service life
The proposed improvements include the following:
- Remove the existing pavement and replace with new concrete pavement
- Upgrade all curb ramps to meet ADA compliance
- Upgrade the cable guard system to a crashworthy system
- Replace and rehabilitate the underground municipal and state utilities

- May 29, 2025 - Public Involvement Meeting
- 2029 - Construction anticipated
Traffic impacts/detours
US 51 will be closed and detoured for the duration of construction utilizing US 14 and WIS 26.
