US 51 (North of County V to WIS 22), Deforest to Leeds - Dane and Columbia counties
Project overview
This project will resurface 3.7 miles of US 51 from just north of County V near Deforest to the intersection with WIS 22/60 near Leeds in Dane and Columbia counties. The project will consist of removing the top 3 inches of asphaltic pavement and adding 4 inches of new hot mix asphalt. Additional work includes replacing guardrail end terminals and replacing two culvert pipes.
The existing asphalt pavement is deteriorating, and treatment is needed to extend the service life of the roadway. Pavement distress data indicates that a preservation improvement concept will deter future pavement deterioration if completed before 2027.

- 2028 - Construction anticipated, but advanceable to 2025 if funding is available
Traffic impacts/detours
US 51 will remain open to traffic with flagging operations. There is a potential for some night work to occur to minimize traffic impacts.
