WIS 146 (WIS 16 to WIS 33), Fall River to Cambria - Columbia County

Project overview

The project will address 13 miles of deteriorating pavement on WIS 146 from WIS 16 to WIS 33 in Columbia County. The project consists of removing 4 inches of existing pavement, improving 8 inches of underlying pavement and base, and paving 4 inches of new asphaltic pavement.

Additional Improvements Include:

  • Widening the paved shoulders to 3 feet, where the existing paved shoulder is less than 3 feet
  • Improving 29 existing curb ramps and adding 2 new curb ramps in the Village of Cambria
  • Removing the pedestrian railing and replacing the sidewalk between 2nd and 3rd Street
  • Removing or improving beam guard
  • Replacing 13 existing cross culverts pipes and removing one cattle pass
  • Repairing the bridge over the Northern Branch of the Crawfish River
  • Replacing the railroad crossing at the southern limits of the Village of Cambria
  • Adding high friction surface treatment to the curve just north of Rupnow Road
  • Adding shoulder rumble strips from Rupnow Road to Palmer Road and County A (east) to County A (west)
  • Adding centerline rumble strips from the northern limits of the Village of Cambria to the WIS 146/WIS 33 intersection

Schedule

Traffic Impacts

WIS 146 is planned to be closed to through traffic during construction. The detour utilizes WIS 16, US 151, WIS 73, and WIS 33.

The railroad crossing just south of Commerce Street is planned to be closed to traffic for approximately 7 days while replacing the crossing. Access for emergency services is planned to be maintained while crossing is closed.

WisDOT recognizes businesses located in work zones have special needs. It's critical that customers have access to businesses and that they continue to visit them, regardless of any road work inconvenience and detour routes. Below are resources to help business owners prepare for the construction.
