Create a Shapes Account

Before Creating Your Account

You will need to have a MyWisconsinID before creating your SHAPES account. However, DO NOT create your MyWisconsinID and SHAPES account using the same browser session (with multiple tabs open). Doing so may lead to a "Token Expired" error while attempting to create the SHAPES account. Follow these steps:

Step 1: After successfully registering your MyWisconsinID, logout from that application completely and close your browser.

Step 2: Clear browser cache, cookies, and history

  1. Open Chrome
  2. Click the three dots (⋮) in the top-right corner
  3. Select Settings
  4. Go to Privacy and security
  5. Click Clear browsing data
  6. In the popup:
    • Time range: Select All time
    • Check the following:
      • ✅ Browsing history
      • ✅ Cookies and other site data
      • ✅ Cached images and files
  7. Click Clear data
  8. Close all Chrome browser windows

  1. Open Edge
  2. Click the three dots (⋮) in the top-right corner
  3. Select Settings
  4. Go to Privacy, search, and services
  5. Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear
  6. In the popup:
    • Time range: Select All time
    • Check the following:
      • ✅ Browsing history
      • ✅ Cookies and other site data
      • ✅ Cached images and files
  7. Click Clear now
  8. Close all Edge browser window

Step 3: Open a fresh browser session

  1. Reopen the browser (Chrome or Edge)
  2. Make sure no old tabs are open

Step 4: Access the SHAPES application

  1. Open the browser
  2. Enter the SHAPES application URL: https://shapes.dot-apps.wisconsin.gov/#/
  3. Click Login
  4. Select MyWisconsin ID
  5. Login using your MyWisconsin ID credentials

Step 5: Verify Successful Login

  1. You should now be logged into the SHAPES application successfully
  2. If prompted, complete any multi-factor authentication (MFA) steps

For each topic below, follow the instructions in the steps provided. The topics correspond with the SHAPES Frequently Asked Questions tab on the SHAPES homepage.

An individual account in the SHAPES portal is intended for users who want to submit and manage permit applications independently as property owners or applicants, without association to a company. This account provides access to specific modules such as highway right of way permits and allows users to track their applications and related information.

Steps to Create a New Individual Account:

Step 1: Start Registration

  • On the SHAPES homepage, click the Sign Up button located under the New User? Register Here section.

Step 2: Sign In with MyWisconsin ID

  • Enter your MyWisconsin ID credentials and click Sign In to proceed.

Step 3: Begin Setup

  • Click the Start Setup button to initiate your registration process.

Step 4: Select Account Type

  • Choose I am an Owner/Applicant as your account type, then click Next.

Step 5: Enter Personal Information

  • Fill out the required fields in the Fill Your Information section with accurate and complete details.

Step 6: Continue to Module Access

  • Click the Next button to proceed.

Step 7: Request Module Access

  • Select the Work on Hwy ROW checkbox to gain access to the highway right of way permit application module, then click Next.

Step 8: Review Your Information

  • Preview all the information you have entered to ensure it is correct.

Step 9: Complete Registration

  • Click the Complete Registration button to submit your account creation request.

Step 10: Confirmation

  • A confirmation message will appear indicating your registration was successfully completed and your account is now active.

Step 11: Access Your Account

  • Click Go to Home Page and Login to return to the SHAPES homepage and access your new account immediately.

Troubleshooting Common Issues:

Confirm all mandatory fields (*) are complete. Ensure stable internet connectivity. Verify browser compatibility (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari).

A company account in SHAPES is designed for organizations or businesses managing multiple permit applications collectively. It allows administrators to maintain shared details, contacts, addresses, and documentation, offering centralized control, improved collaboration, and streamlined communication with permitting authorities.

Steps to Create a New Company Account:

Step 1: Access the SHAPES Portal

Step 2: Initiate Registration

Click the Sign Up button under New User? Register Here.

Step 3: Provide MyWisconsin ID Credentials

  • Enter your MyWisconsin ID username and password.
    • Click Sign In.

Step 4: Start Your Setup
Click the Start Setup button to begin registration.

Step 5: Choose Account Type
Select the New Company account type. Click Next.

Step 6: Enter Company Information
Enter accurate and complete company details. Fill in all required fields marked with (*). Click Next.

Step 7: Select Module Access
Check Work on Hwy ROW to request appropriate permissions. Click Next.

Step 8: Review Information

  • Carefully review all previewed information.
  • Navigate back to correct inaccuracies if needed.

Step 9: Complete Registration
Click Complete registration to submit your registration.

Step 10: Confirmation Message

  • A Registration Successful message confirms your submission along with a Registration Request Received email notification.
  • The page redirects automatically or click Go to Home Page to proceed.

Post-Registration Information:

  • Your company account request is pending approval.
  • A DOT registration approver will review your submission.
  • You will receive Registration Request Approved email notification upon approval.

The Join an Existing Company option in SHAPES allows individuals to associate their user accounts with their organization's existing SHAPES profile, enabling shared access to company related applications, documents, and workflows.

Steps to Join an existing Company Account

Step 1: Access the SHAPES Portal

Step 2: Initiate Registration
Click the Sign Up button under the New User? Register Here section.

Step 3: Enter MyWisconsin ID

  • Provide your MyWisconsin ID credentials.
    • Click Sign In to authenticate.

Step 4: Confirm User Details

  • Confirm your First Name, Last Name, and Email details displayed.
  • Click Confirm and Proceed to move forward.

Step 5: Start Setup
Click the Start Setup button.

Step 6: Select Account Type

  • Choose Join an Existing Company as the account type.
  • Click Next.

Step 7: Provide Company Information

  • Enter the provided Company Access Key.
  • Provide accurate contact information to ensure successful communication.

Step 8: Verify Access Key

  • Click the Verify Access Key icon to confirm the validity of your key.
  • If verification fails, consult your company's administrator.

Step 9: Click Next
Once verification is successful, click the Next icon to proceed.

Step 10: Review Information

  • Carefully review all details on the preview screen.
  • Navigate back to make corrections if necessary.

Step 11: Complete Registration
Click the Complete registration and Login button to finalize your submission along with a Company User Registration Request Received email notification.

Step 12: Access the Home Page
Click the Go to Home Page button to navigate back to the SHAPES homepage.

Post-Registration Information:
  • Your request to join the existing company account is now pending approval.
  • A DOT registration approver will review your submission.
  • You'll receive Company User Registration Request Approved email notification upon approval.
