Purpose and Need

The structure is nearing the end of its service life. The existing structure has significant cracking in the center portion of the slab, and the concrete abutment has vertical cracking. Also, the metal bridge rail is starting to erode and the wing walls have moved from the original 90-degree angle and tipped to one side or the other.

Proposed ImprovementsWIS 32 Bridge over West Branch of Suamico River

This is a replacement-level improvement, including:

  • Removal of existing flat slab structure
  • Installation of multi-cell box culvert
  • Asphalt approaches
  • Grading to remove the need for guardrail

Proposed schedule

  • Environmental document: Fall 2024
  • Design study: November 2024
  • Utility coordination: Winter 2024
  • Design completion: February 2027
  • Construction is currently scheduled for 2028

32kbbrAnticipated Traffic Impacts

WIS 32 at the bridge will be CLOSED for bridge replacement.

Proposed detour

The proposed detour route will direct traffic to use WIS 29 and WIS 160 to bypass the bridge construction.

  • The state detours for long-haul trucks. Local traffic often can find shorter routes using the local roadway system.

Public involvement

Your comments assist us in developing a project that will serve the needs of the traveling public as well as the needs of the local community. Comments are due July 15, 2024, to be considered for design. You can provide comments by three different methods.
