Study Overview
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a planning and environmental linkages (PEL) study exploring potential changes to the vicinity of the I-43 National Avenue Interchange in Milwaukee County. The purpose of this study is to evaluate alternatives that address safety and operational conditions and better connect the surrounding area. This study is a response to community calls to address safety at the ramps and better connect the area.
See the schedule below to view study progression and corresponding project phases.
Concepts
Based on the purpose and need and initial community feedback, WisDOT developed four concepts for potential changes to the interchange.

Public Input
Thank you to everyone who shared feedback during the first two phases of the study. The first public meeting was held on November 12, 2025, focused on community visioning. The second public meeting was held on June 3, 2026, where attendees reviewed and commented on concepts.
What’s next? WisDOT is reviewing public input so far to help guide design considerations. Study results will be shared with the public later in 2026. Community input is an important part of this study. Provide a comment at any time using
