DTSD Excellence in Construction Awards 2020

US 51 Southbound, from County S to US 8, Lincoln County - North Central Region

The Excellence in Asphalt Paving Award went to Northeast Asphalt of Green Bay, for work on an 8.6-mile pavement replacement project on US 51 in Lincoln County. The contractor finished the project two and a half months ahead of schedule, helping to reduce overall travel impacts, while still delivering a quality product that exceeded expectations.

County CA, County CB to Casaloma Dr., Town of Grand Chute, Outagamie County - Northeast Region

The Excellence in Concrete Paving Award went to Vinton Construction of Two Rivers for the reconstruction of County CA from County CB to Casaloma Dr. in Outagamie County. Vinton Construction used optimized concrete mix designs, helping save over 240 tons of cementitious materials while still providing an outstanding concrete pavement.

WIS 82 Point Bluff Bridge, Adams and Juneau Counties - Southwest Region

The Excellence in Large Structures Award went to Lunda Construction Company of Black River Falls for construction of the WIS 82 Point Bluff bridge over the Wisconsin River in Adams and Juneau Counties. The existing 17-span steel truss bridge was nearing the end of its life. The new structure is an 11-span bridge built adjacent to the old structure, eliminating the need for a long detour. A significant cost savings to the project was achieved by using Pile Dynamic Analyzer testing to reduce the length of piling needed for the project, resulting in a savings of $846,000. Despite being a complex and challenging multi-year project, the contractor completed the project early and under budget.

US 18/151 Verona Rd Stages 2 & 3, Dane County - Southwest Region

Integrity Grading and Excavating received the Large Contract Award for work on US 18/151 Verona Road project, in Dane County. The project included reconstructing and expanding the corridor to provide six lanes and a new single point urban interchange at County PD. The project involved many different components including two new structures, over 350,000 cubic yards of earthwork, and large retaining walls. Public outreach in this busy urban corridor was imperative to the success of the project, and the contractor worked closely with WisDOT, surrounding business groups, and local communities to construct this project while still maintaining traffic volumes of 60,000 vehicles per day.
