Rehab work proposed for St. Croix River bridges currently set for 2025
Release date: February 27, 2024
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is holding a public involvement meeting to provide information about a proposed rehabilitation project on the bridges carrying I-94 over the St. Croix River between Hudson, Wis., and Lakeland, Minn.
-
When: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12
-
Where: Conference room, Hudson Fire Department, 2121 Ward Ave.
Built in 1973 and 1995 respectively, the west- and eastbound structures are in need of maintenance. WisDOT is proposing to:
- Replace expansion joints on the structures.
- Repair concrete surface at abutments, wing walls and piers.
- Place a polymer overlay on bridge decks.
- Paint select structural steel.
- Replace a retaining wall and sidewalk railing.
During construction, a minimum of two lanes of traffic will remain open, but various stages will require the WIS 35 on-ramp to westbound I-94 closed. During those times, traffic will be required to use the WIS 35 on-ramp to eastbound I-94, exit at Carmichael Road, cross the bridge and take the on-ramp to westbound I-94.
Estimated to take seven months to complete, construction currently is scheduled for 2025.
