Resurfacing project on WIS 77 in Hayward east to start

Work also includes cleaning, lining or repairing culverts, placing pavement markings

Release date: April 26, 2024

To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $3.29 million contract with prime contractor Monarch Paving Co. of Amery for a resurfacing project on WIS 77 from US 63 in Hayward east to County K in the town of Hayward, all in Sawyer County. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, May 13, but crews are expected to begin mobilizing the week before.

The existing pavement is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:

  • Remove a portion of the existing pavement and place new asphalt pavement.
  • Clean, line or repair culverts.
  • Place new pavement markings.

During construction, WIS 77 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter daytime single-lane closures controlled by flagging.

Construction is scheduled for completion in early July.
