Governor Evers approves US 12 and WIS 11 improvement project in Walworth County

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Governor Evers has approved a $5.73 million project in Walworth County. This project will make improvements to approximately seven miles of US 12 between WIS 67 in the city of Elkhorn and WIS 20. A box culvert on WIS 11, between I-43 and Cobb Road near the city of Elkhorn will also be replaced as part of this project. Payne and Dolan is the prime contractor. Construction is scheduled to begin May 13.

This project will be completed in two phases:

Phase 1 improvements: (Mid-May to late summer)

  • Box culvert replacement on WIS 11 at Bakers Creek
  • New asphalt pavement over new box culvert
  • New guardrail on each side of box culvert

Phase 1 Traffic Impacts:

WIS 11 will be closed to through traffic between I-43 and Cobb Road for the duration of the project. There will be no access across Bakers Creek. A detour will be posted utilizing WIS 67 and I-43. Access to local residences and businesses will be maintained.

Phase 2 Improvements: (Mid-June to fall 2024)

  • Resurfacing US 12 between WIS 20 and the WIS 67/US 12 split
  • US 12 bridge reconstruction over Sugar Creek
  • Westbound US 12 to northbound WIS 67 ramp terminal will be reconstructed.
  • New traffic signals at County ES/US 12 intersection
  • Guardrail safety enhancements

Phase 2 Traffic Impacts:

US 12 will be fully closed between County A and County ES during bridge reconstruction. Residents and local businesses will have access along US 12 and County ES.

Work is scheduled for completion in fall 2024. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
