Chip sealing planned on segment of WIS 64 in St. Croix County

Release date: June 22, 2023

Maintenance crews from the St. Croix County Highway Department plan to chip seal a section of WIS 64 from US 63 North to the Dunn County line on Tuesday, June 27. The work will be completed between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m.

A chip seal consists of a layer of crushed stone placed on top of an application of liquid asphalt to reduce further deterioration of the pavement.

Loose stones will be on the highway temporarily during the initial cure of the asphalt. Once the chip seal has cured, crews will sweep the highway to clear away loose stones.

During chip sealing operations, WIS 64 will be open to through traffic, but motorists will encounter lane closures controlled by flaggers. Drivers are urged to take extra caution, drive slowly and allow additional space between vehicles to prevent damage from any loose stone chips.

The work is expected to be completed that day. Schedules are dependent on weather conditions and subject to change.
