Governor Evers approves resurfacing project on WIS 137

Construction to close highway in Bayfield and Ashland counties to through traffic

Release date: June 25, 2024

To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $2.27 million contract with prime contractor Northwoods Paving of Ashland for a resurfacing project on WIS 137 between US 2 in Bayfield County and WIS 112 in the Ashland County city of Ashland. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, July 8.

The existing pavement is showing signs of deterioration. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:

  • Remove 2 1/4 inches of existing pavement and place 3 1/4 inches of new asphalt pavement.
  • Grade shoulders to match the new edge of the asphalt pavement.
  • Repair, replace or clean culvert pipes.
  • Replace an end terminal on a section of guardrail and adjust the height on another segment.
  • Place new pavement markings.

During construction, WIS 137 will be closed to through traffic, which will be detoured via US 2 and WIS 112.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late August.
