Office of General Counsel (OGC)
Michael Berndt is the Chief Legal Counsel and the Director of the Office of General Counsel (OGC). The OGC acts as legal counsel for WisDOT and works closely with WisDOT leadership to provide legal counsel on a wide variety of legal issues.
Mike has more than 35 years of experience with the state and most recently served as Chief Legal Counsel at the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. He received his law degree at the University of Wisconsin Law School. You may reach Mike at (608) 266-8928 or
Office of the Inspector General (OIG)
As the Inspector General, Craig Mayer serves as an advisor to the Secretary and works with executive leadership to make the best use of taxpayer dollars by identifying policies and practices that create inefficiencies.
Craig is a professional engineer with an extensive background in program/project management and process improvement. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his Master of Engineering from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Office of Management and Budget (OMB)
Dana Burmaster is the Director of WisDOT’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB). OMB coordinates the development of agency’s biennial budgets; analyzes policy, management and financial issues; and manages the department’s research and performance improvement programs.
Dana has held a variety of positions within state government at the Department of Administration (DOA) and the University of Wisconsin system. Most recently, she was the Director of Planning and Performance at DOA. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and project management certifications. Office of Public Affairs (OPA)
OPA provides information about WisDOT policies and programs through news releases, publications, audio-visual programs, and social media; coordinates public education campaigns; and distributes internal communication materials.
