WIS 50 Reconstruction, Wheatland - Kenosha County

Project location

WIS 50, from S County W to the Wisconsin Central Railroad, in the Town of Wheatland, Kenosha County.

This section of WIS 50 has been subject to flooding at the Fox River during periods of heavy rain, which has required the road to close. Due to flooding that occurs on WIS 50 just east of the N County W intersection, WisDOT is proposing to reconstruct 0.25 miles of the roadway. Proposed improvements include raising the roadway to an elevation that reduces the likelihood of flooding in the future.

No changes to the number of lanes are proposed. Real estate will be required on the north side of the roadway to accommodate improvements.

  • September 2020 - Virtual public involvement meeting #1 (PIM)
  • Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2023 and be complete in late summer 2024.

2023 Traffic Impacts

  • Single lane closures during construction of traffic crossovers.
  • Once crossovers are constructed, winter shutdown will begin.

2024 Traffic Impacts

  • Construction anticipated to resume in spring 2024.
  • WIS 50 will remain open to traffic during construction with one lane for each travel direction.
  • Traffic will be staged during construction.
  • Access to local business and property owners will be maintained
