The pavement is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation plans to:

  • Remove a portion of the existing pavement and place new asphalt pavement.
  • Add a left-turn lane for southbound traffic at Hillview Road and curb and gutter at the intersection.
  • Replace deteriorated culverts.
  • Clean ditches and culverts.
  • Replace outdated guardrail.

During construction, US 53 will:

  • Be closed to through traffic for the replacement of two sets of culvert pipes carrying Otter Creek under the highway, with traffic detoured via County HH and I-94.
  • Remain open to traffic for remaining work, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures and speed limit reductions in the work zone.

Construction currently is scheduled for 2029.
