Location
The Lake Chetek Bridge is on County D (Sumner Avenue) in the Barron County city of Chetek.
Overview
Built in 1973, the bridge is showing signs of deterioration. To address that, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing to make the following improvements on the:
- Bridge
- Place a 1 ½-inch concrete overlay over the bridge deck.
- Repair the concrete sidewalk, bridge piers and parapet.
- Make joint repairs.
- Clean drainage grates.
- Paint bridge girders.
- Bridge roadway approaches
- Mill 2 inches of the existing asphalt pavement on either side of the structure and pave 2 inches of hot-mix asphalt over the roadway.
- Replace curb, gutter and sidewalk.
- Restore the landscape around the construction site.
Traffic Impacts
During construction:
- County D currently is proposed to be closed to traffic.
- Detour route: County M, US 8 and County SS.
- Accommodations will be made to allow pedestrians to cross the bridge.
Schedule
Construction currently is scheduled for 2026.
