Location
US 12/WIS 27 south of the Jackson County village of Merrillan. The first culvert is just south of the US 12/WIS 27-Castle Hill Road intersection, and the second culvert is south of the US 12/WIS 27-Gilbert Road intersection.
Overview
Both culverts were built in 1930, and inspections show signs of deterioration -- heavy abrasion to the floors, exposed rebar and cracks -- in each. To address this, WisDOT is proposing:
- Replacing the first culvert just south of Merrillan with a 72-inch reinforced concrete pipe.
- Replacing the second culvert with two 72-inch reinforced concrete pipes.
- Removing 5.5 inches of existing pavement and placing 6.5 inches of new asphalt pavement at both locations.
- Replacing guardrail to meet current standards.
- Marking the new pavement
Schedule
Construction currently is scheduled for 2027.
Traffic Impacts
US 12/WIS 27 will be closed to through traffic during construction.
- Posted detour route: I-94 and WIS 95.
- Other local roads will offer motorists additional options for navigating around the work zone.
