Location
The 10.9-mile segment of US 63 from US 8 East in Turtle Lake to WIS 48 West in Cumberland, all in Barron County.
Overview
The pavement is this segment of US 63 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing to:
- Removing 2.25 inches of the existing pavement and placing 3.25 inches of hot-mix asphalt in rural sections and removing 3.25 inches of existing pavement and placing 3.25 inches of hot-mix asphalt for the urban segment with curb and gutter.
- Cleaning, lining, repairing or replacing culverts.
- Increasing the width of the paved shoulders from 3 feet to 5 feet.
- Installing shoulder rumble strips.
- Adding a high-friction surface treatment to two corners to help prevent vehicles from sliding off the road.
- Replacing guardrail.
Schedule
Construction currently is scheduled for 2026.
Traffic Impacts
US 63 will remain open to traffic during construction, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging and temporary signals.
