WIS 27 (Chippewa County line to US 8), town of Willard to Ladysmith - Rusk County

Location

WIS 27 from the Chippewa County line north to US 8 in Ladysmith, all in Rusk County.

Overview

The pavement on this segment of WIS 27 is showing signs of deteriorating. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is planning to:

  • Remove a portion of the existing pavement and place a 3-inch layer of new asphalt.
  • Make concrete surface repairs to the bridge carrying WIS 27 over Deer Trail Creek.
  • Replace culverts, guardrail and pavement markings.
  • Make embankment repairs and clean ditches.
  • Complete spot repairs to curb and gutter and upgrade sidewalk curb ramps.
  • Upgrade the traffic signals at Port Arthur Road.

In addition, the railroad crossing and signals between Fritz Avenue West and Miner Avenue West will be upgraded by the railroad.

Schedule

Construction currently is scheduled for 2028.

  • Construction could occur as early as 2027 if funding becomes available.

Traffic Impacts

During construction, WIS 27 is expected to remain open for some of the work, but motorists could encounter lane closures controlled by flagging or temporary signals.

During railroad crossing work, WIS 27 will be closed, and traffic will be detoured.
