The project scope includes replacing the pavement along I-43 between WIS 83 and WIS 164, and reconstruction of the I-43 and WIS 164 interchange with the WisDOT recommended alternative being a new Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) layout.
Additional project elements include:
- Improvements to the Big Bend Park and Ride (southeast quadrant of WIS 164 interchange)
- Replace guardrail
- Culvert pipe repair/replacement and cleaning
- Drainage improvements at the northwest quadrant of I-43 and WIS 164
- Replace existing signing and pavement marking
- Structure repairs to many of the bridges along the corridor
WisDOT hosted a public involvement meeting on October 26, 2022 at the town of Vernon Fire Department to discuss the proposed improvements. Materials and exhibits shared at the meeting are posted below to help give more opportunity for public feedback.
Diverging Diamond Interchanges:
Traffic staging alternatives that are being considered include staging with inside/outside construction, staging with a crossover where traffic will be shifted to the opposite direction, or a full-time closure and detour to complete the work. The two staging alternatives will likely require long-term single lane closures and ramp closures. It is anticipated that most of the work would occur during daytime hours.
Construction is scheduled for 2026.
