US 51 (Tomlinson Road to Ontario Street), Deforest to Portage - Columbia County

Project overview

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is developing preliminary plans for a resurfacing project on US 51 in Columbia County. The 11 mile project is located between the Tomlinson Road intersection and the Ontario Street intersection in the Village of Poynette, the City of Portage, and in the Towns of Dekorra and Pacific.

Proposed improvements include:

  • Adding a 4-inch Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) to surface layer
  • Replacement of existing guardrail
  • Replacement of existing pavement markings
  • Replacement of curb ramps in the Village of Poynette
  • Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) overlay on bridge B-11-94 over Duck Creek

Schedule

  • January 22, 2020 - Public involvement meeting (PIM)
  • Summer 2024 - Construction anticipated

Traffic impacts/detours

US 51 will remain open to traffic with flagging operations during construction.
