Surface Transportation Program - Urban (STP-U) allocates federal funds to complete a variety of improvements to federal-aid-eligible roads and streets in urban areas.
The objective of STP-U is to improve federal aid eligible highways within urban areas. Projects must meet federal and state requirements. Communities are eligible for funding on roads functionally classified as major collector or higher.
For 2020-2025 program development, total funds available for the STP-Urban Program are $199,399,252 broken down as follows:
- 200k+ population, $147,783,297
- 50k-200k population, $33,856,782
- 20k-50k population, $6,470,696
- 5k-20k population, $11,288,477
These amounts are based on anticipated federal local program levels for fiscal years 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
The STP-Urban 5,000-20,000 Program received 15 project requests for a total of $27,768,996 in federal funds. WisDOT approved 9 project requests for the 2020-2025 Program Cycle totaling $12,195,359.
The STP-Urban 20,000-50,000 Program received 6 project requests for a total of $20,223,033 in federal funds. WisDOT approved 2 project requests for the 2020-2025 Program Cycle totaling $6,287,413.
The urbanized area MPOs and TMAs approved 20, STP-Urban 50k-200k projects for the 2020-2025 Program Cycle totaling $33,856,782.
The urbanized area MPOs and TMAs approved 40, STP-Urban 200k+ projects for the 2020-2025 Program Cycle totaling $147,621,808.
