WIS 124 (Bridge Street to WIS 64), Chippewa Falls to town of Bloomer - Chippewa County

Location

This work consists of three projects on WIS 124 from the city of Chippewa Falls to the towns of Eagle Point, Woodmohr and Bloomer, all in Chippewa County.

Overview

The existing pavement and drainage structures on this segment of WIS 124 are deteriorating. In addition, the culverts are aging, and bridge features, curb ramps and guardrail need to be updated to current standards. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing:

• Milling the pavement on WIS 124 from WIS 64 to High Street, from High Street down Elm, Bridge, Cedar and Bay streets and from the intersection of Bay and River streets to the intersection of River and Bridge streets and overlaying it with asphalt.
• Overlaying the deck of the bridge over the Union Pacific railroad tracks and repairing the wing wall on the bridge over O'Neil Creek.
• Replacing or lining several culverts.
• Upgrading curb ramps, guardrail, pavement markings and traffic signals.
• Cleaning ditches and clearing trees at select locations.

Real Estate

Temporary limited easements and strip parcel acquisition will be needed to upgrade curb ramps.

Schedule - Updated

• Real estate acquisition: 2023.
• Construction:
• County S to High Street and High Street to Bridge Street: 2025.
• WIS 64 to County S: 2031.
• If funds become available, construction on this segment could occur as early as 2025.

Traffic Impacts

• Resurfacing work on WIS 124 will be completed using lane closures and flagging operations.
• Bridge work will be completed using single-lane closures and traffic signals.
