Location
WIS 35 from Old WIS 35 to Indian Creek Road in the towns of Buffalo and Milton and city of Fountain City, and
WIS 54 from the Minnesota-Wisconsin state line to WIS 35, all in Buffalo County.
Overview
The asphalt pavement on these segments of WIS 35 and WIS 54 are showing signs of deterioration. To maximize the service life of WIS 35, the proposed project will:
- Mill the existing asphalt and overlay it with new asphalt.
- Repair or replace deteriorated culvert pipes throughout the corridor.
- Perform maintenance on and repair of guardrail throughout the corridor.
- Improve drainage on WIS 35 just west of Lovers Lane.
- Upgrade the existing pedestrian curb ramps in Fountain City to meet current standards.
- Install centerline rumble strips and new pavement markings.
- Maintain 5-foot paved shoulder widths along WIS 35.
To maximize the service life of WIS 54, the proposed project will:
- Mill the existing asphalt and overlay it with new asphalt.
Schedule
- Construction currently is scheduled for 2027.
Traffic Impacts
- Both projects will be constructed under traffic using flaggers and single-lane closures.
- Construction will be staged to avoid local events that generate significant traffic.
- Nighttime work will be considered for the WIS 54 project given the high peak hour commuter traffic along this segment.
