Many transportation information publishers offer their journals online, in either full-text or partial text format. Below are some of the major national and regional publications, grouped by transportation topic.

  • FAA Safety Briefing
    Published by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), this publication focuses on aviation safety.
  • General Aviation News
    Provides news, opinion pieces, press releases and consumer feedback on a wide variety of aviation topics.

Bicycling and Pedestrian

  • PBIC Resources
    Published by the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center.

Energy

  • Petroleum Marketing Monthly
    Published by the Energy Information Administration, U.S. Department of Energy, this monthly publication provides volume statistics on crude oil and petroleum products at a national, regional and state level.
  • Petroleum Supply Monthly
    Provides statistics on the supply and disposition of crude oil and petroleum products on a national and regional level. The data series describe production, imports and exports, movements and inventories.

Engineering

  • The Bridge
    The Bridge, the quarterly journal of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), addresses issues of engineering and technology policy and provides information for NAE members.
  • Civil Engineering
    The official publication of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), published monthly. Their online site contains one full-text feature story per issue, and table of contents listings.
  • ITE Journal
    ITE Journal is published monthly by the Institute of Transportation Engineers. The Journal is written by and for transportation engineers, transportation planners and others responsible for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods on our surface transportation systems.
  • Public Works
    Contains headlines of major news items related to engineering, construction and maintenance, including items associated with traffic engineering.

Environment

  • Land Lines
    Published by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy. The newsletter reports on the Institute's current research, publications and educational programs, while offering readers different points of view on a variety of land use and taxation topics of interest in the United States and internationally.
  • World Transport Policy and Practice
    This journal is published quarterly and is dedicated to presenting strong academic research with a focus on planning transportation systems and economic objectives.

  • Journal of Transport and Land Use
    The Journal of Transport and Land Use is an open-access, full-text, peer-reviewed online journal that publishes original interdisciplinary papers on the interaction of transport and land use. Disciplines covered in the journal include engineering, planning, modeling, behavior, economics, geography, regional science, sociology, architecture and design, network science, and complex systems. The journal is published by the Center for Transportation Studies at the University of Minnesota and is international in scope.

  • Texas Transportation Researcher
    A publication of the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A & M University. The Researcher is a leading journal in the transportation community covering all modes of transportation.

    The Transportation Research Board's bimonthly magazine features timely articles on innovative and state-of-the-art research and practice in all modes of transportation
  • Research Board (TRB) serial publications
    TRB publishes many different reports that are released on a continual basis. These reports are peer-reviewed and cover a broad range of transportation topics.
  • TDA Newsletter
    Newsletter published by the Transportation Development Association of Wisconsin (TDA) containing many articles about transportation policy, planning and investment in Wisconsin. Other transportation topics covered include environment, rail and safety.
  • TRB E-Newsletter

    Published monthly by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Focus has expanded its scope and is now covering the implementation of innovative technologies in all areas of infrastructure. This includes bridge technology, pavement technology, asset management, program administration, winter maintenance, and work zone safety.
  • Innovator
    Published by the Federal Highway Administration Highways for LIFE program, the Innovator advances implementation of innovative technologies and processes in the highway industry. Its audience is transportation professionals in highway agencies, trade and research groups, academia and the private sector, and the driving public.
  • Land Line Magazine
    The official publication of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA). It is written by and for professional truckers operating trucks and semi-trailers in for-hire transportation of exempt and regulated commodities.
  • National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Publications
    A wide variety of publications produced by this program within the Transportation Research Board including research results, technical reports, synthesis of highway practices and legal results digests.
  • Roads and Bridges
    Contains full-text articles covering the transportation construction industry. Their mission is to help their readers, associations and companies remain competitive through the use of latest technologies. Statistics

  • National Transportation Statistic​s
    Published by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics within the U.S. DOT, this quarterly publication presents statistics on the U.S. transportation system, including its physical components, safety record, economic performance, the human and natural environment, and national security. It comprises more than 260 data tables plus data source and accuracy statements, glossary and a list of acronyms and initialisms.

Transit

  • Bus Ride
    Publication targeted to the bus, transit and motor coach industries. Full-text stories are featured on their site.
  • Community Transportation
    A bi-monthly publication that examines public and community transportation. Topics covered include technical assistance, model programs and federal and congressional updates with a mission of telling stories about the business of moving people, and of improving the quality of life of thousands of Americans. Their site provides a mixture of both full-text and abstracts of articles.
  • Journal of Public Transportation
    A quarterly, international scholarly journal containing original research and case studies associated with various forms of public transportation and related transportation and policy issues. Topics are approached from a variety of academic disciplines, including economics, engineering, planning, and others, and include policy, methodological, technological, and financial aspects. Emphasis is placed on the identification of innovative solutions to transportation. Published at the National Center for Transit Research located at the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) at the University of South Florida. Abstracts of articles are provided.
  • Mass Transit magazine
    Summaries and some full-text articles are provided. This publication focuses on management of mass transit transportation systems.
  • Metro magazine
    Includes breaking news and story summaries for the bus, transit, rail and motorcoach industries.
  • Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP) Publications
    A variety of transit-related topics are examined in these peer-reviewed journals published by the Transportation Research Board. Publications include reports, research and legal results digests and synthesis reports.
